Summary
Back in 2015, theSeraph of the Endanime series aired in two parts, and it became really popular thanks to its striking visuals, engaging story and characters, and interesting lore in general. Nine Years later, there istill no news regarding a renewal of the anime, despite its popularity. Even though the manga continues being published in the present, the hype for the series inevitably came to a halt.
Though there is no official statement concerningSeraph of the Endseason 3, the most logical theory is that the anime stopped production because Studio Wit ran out of source material. Modern anime are trying to avoid the risk of running out of source material while still on the air. That was almost the case with Seraph of the End. Its 24 episodes managed to adapt the entirety of the manga that was published then, with just a small change in the last episode.

Shonen Jump’s Rankings Show Which New Series Could Be Its Next Big Hit
Astro Royale has received its first official ranking in Shonen Jump, and its popularity puts it on the path to becoming the next big thing.
Seraph of the End Is a Compelling Anime Brought to a Sudden Stop
Its Ever-Developing Story and Characters Deserve Better
Seraph of the End starts pretending to bea regular shonenwith teenagers who attend a special academy and fight vampires with magical weapons. That generic description does fit in the plot, but it’s far from being its core. The more the story advances, the more twists and turns there are. In the same fashion as series likeFullmetal AlchemistandAttack on Titan, what is initially thought to be the main goal gets discarded along the way, and the story turns darker, more tangled, and very political and supernatural as it goes on.
The anime faithfully adapted the first 44 chapters of the manga, with a slight divergence that could easily be redirected back into the original story. The plot inSeraph of the Endmixes common supernatural tropes. The end of humanity already happened after vampires took over the world. Some of the few remaining humans formed the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, whose objective is to exterminate vampires. As the story progresses, several twists occur, revealing that some characters are not what they seem, they hold dark motives, become traitors, or are just mere puppets.

Mika and Yuu Are Some of the Most Iconic Deuteragonists in Shonen
So far, more than one hundred chapters of the story have been published, which makes Seraph of the End not that long compared to the majority of popular shonen manga (even though it doesn’t seem close to ending yet). Takaya Kagami has crafted a chaotic world where a new twist is unveiled every few arcs. The story does no hand-holding, which some viewers and readers find absorbing. The characters are also well-built, especially its protagonists Yuuichiro and Mikaela, who both go through tremendous development.
It is their relationship that has brought some curious fans who had perhaps forgotten aboutSeraph of the Endback into the series. Yuu and Mika, as they’re more commonly addressed, are deuteragonists, and the bond that unites them onlygets more supernatural every time. Some of their decisions are outrageous, but that’s exactly what makes the story interesting. The rest of the characters are also amusing in their own ways, and most of them hold relevance to the plot, making the story believable.

Seraph of the End Has Plenty of Potential To Come Back to Animation
Wit Studio Has Over 90 Chapters and Three Spin-Offs to Work With
Besides the main story, there are also several spin-offs.The most popular one is, by far, the “Guren Ichinose: Catastrophe at Sixteen” light novel series. They serve as some sort of prequel to the main story, but focusing on Guren instead of Yuu and Mika. Adapting these light novels into anime could also be a smart move to spark the series back into popularity again, as Guren has always been a fan-favorite character. The other two are also light novel series: “The Story of Vampire Mikaela” and “Guren Ichinose: Resurrection at Nineteen”.
The very successfulGuren Ichinose: Catastrophe at Sixteennovels were adapted into manga form. 11 volumes were published from 2017 to 2022. They tell the story from before humanity ended.
TheSeraph of the Endmanga is published regularly on Shueisha’sJump Squaremonthly magazine. Considering that an anime episode covers 2 chapters of a manga on average, it’s no wonder why there hasn’t been news regarding a new season. Additionally, much like the case withChainsaw Man, the Blu-Ray sales were disappointing, and yet, that didn’t stop its production. It’s been the show’s popularity that keeps it relevant.Seraph of the End is, even after 9 years, in the top 100 popular anime according to My Anime List, and with a devoted fanbase, the probability of a new season is solid.
The anime is available for streaming on Hulu, and the manga can be read for free in the Shueisha MANGA Plus app as a simulrelease. With somepopular shonen manga series approaching their end, likeJujutsu KaisenandMy Hero Academia, it could be a reasonable idea to revive a series that was already popular and has kept a loyal fanbase, likeSeraph of the End. There might be a fair share of supernatural anime out there, but when it’s good, it’s never too much.
