Summary

Occasionally, inStardew Valley, there is afeature that players don’t know about, but this one is different. The game has multiple farm layouts that all serve different purposes. Players might choose to opt for the Wilderness farm if they’re in search of combat at night, while those that enjoy fishing can happily take residence on the Riverland or Beach farm. No matter the farm type that’s chosen, all farms will have a certain number of bushes. These bushes yield berries at specific times in certain seasons.

While the berries can be aquickStardew Valleytrickto restore energy while gaining Foraging experience, sometimes they’re on tiles that are important. Maybe there’s a perfect spot for a coop or barn at the corner of the farm, but there’s a single berry bush obstructing any potential for a building. It turns out thatthere’s something that can be done about the bushes, a feature that a good portion of the player base is seemingly unaware of.

Upgraded Axes Can Destroy Berry Bushes In Stardew Valley

Create More Space For Building & Farming

Reddit usershsl_izzyuploaded a video destroying the berry bushes and other smaller bushes on the farm. They used a Golden Axe to demolish the bushes and clear up more free space around a cabin. While this isn’t a new feature, and some players have been well aware of this feature for a while, the comments on the original post include users mentioning that they had no idea this was possible. User Somatsua commented on the post, “1279.4 hours into the game, and I just learned this today….”

Players can only remove these shrubs on the Riverland and Forest farmmaps, and will need a Copper Axe at the very least. The Steel Axe is needed to enter the Secret Woods in the west of Cindersap Forest. Players can obtain axe upgrades at Clint’s house. First to Copper, then to Steel. These ores can be obtained in the mines inStardew Valley’s first in-game year. Upgrading an axe takes two days, as long as there aren’t any festivals occurring within that window.

What Berry Bushed Do In Stardew Valley

They’re Really Useful In The Early Game

If the bushes aren’t destroyed, thenfarmers can expect to harvestSalmonberriesbetween Spring 15 and 18, andBlackberrybetween Fall 8 and 11. The number of berries per harvest depends on the player’s Foraging level, and caps out at four berries if the player consumes food that increases Foraging. Both blackberries and salmonberries restore 25 energy and 11 health per berry, increasing with berry quality.

Picking berries with a higher Foraging skill will award better quality berries. On the other hand, picking berries will slightly increase Foraging skill. This means that, while berry bushes can be removed entirely,it might be beneficial to keep them aroundto boost skills and stats. Just remember that bushes can also be found that provide berries outside the farm area, and Foraging isn’t the only important skill. SinceFishing is easier in 1.6, it can quickly be maxed out.

Stardew Valleyis the kind of game that has various small features still being discovered all the time, and while this isn’t a new feature, and a feature that seems to be only partly known by the community, time will continue to unveil plenty more facts and features about commonly known mechanics in the game.
