Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Sweet Tooth series finale!
Summary
Sweet Toothstar Rosalind Chao reflects on Mrs. Zhang’s fate and the future of the Family, explaining what she believes happened after the end of the series. TheSweet Toothseries finalesees Zhang at the mercy of Gus and his group, having been bested despite her attempts at destroying all hybrids. They end up leaving her for dead, her fate unknown, but seemingly one where she dies in an attempt at making it down the mountain.
However, while speaking withScreen Rant,Chao revealed she thinks Mrs. Zhang survivedafter the end ofSweet Toothseason 3. The actor explained just how resourceful her character is, and how her influence over others likely resulted in her being able to bring younger members of the Family back under her command. Check out what Chao had to say below:

I think she does not give up easily, and if anybody can beat that environment and come back worse than she was before, it’s that lady. I would not put anything past her, because I think she has an ability — I don’t know how much they showed it, I can’t remember — to make people think that she’s one way, and then flip it again. So, I think she’s capable of just about anything. We do see the end result, so we know it’s all okay, but in my mind at the time, before I’d seen that, I thought, “She’s not the type, she won’t really regret it. She would survive that, she would not die in that environment. That lady, she’s not dying.” She’s like that roach that you keep trying to step on, and they keep crawling out from that. She’s that lady. [Chuckles]
I think she could woo the younger one back and use her wiles to get people under her thumb again. I really do. Those people are very resourceful, let’s put it that way, and people without a conscience, which she seems to not — I mean, we see a little window of it in episode 3, when she first sees the babies. I think she really wanted to love the babies, and really was hoping, but that freaking baby bit her finger, and it unleashed something in her I think. I don’t know, maybe I’m being too harsh. Maybe it could go the other way. But I don’t think she’s ever going to be the perfect mom.

What Could Happen Next If Mrs. Zhang Survived Sweet Tooth?
Mrs. Zhang’s Plans Likely Wouldn’t Have Gotten Far
Given thatSweet Toothhas ended, there’s no way of knowing for sure if Zhang was able to make it down the mountain, let alone survive the harsh conditions she likely had to face. It’s very possible that she didn’t make it back alive, and her story ended after being defeated by Gus and his friends. However, Chao is insistent that she likely did survive due to how resourceful she is, something that could pose an unseen danger to hybrids depending on how powerful she later becomes.
However, the final episode also revealsGus wasSweet Tooth’s narratorthe whole time, something that indicates a good future for hybrids decades into the future. While Zhang may have survived and even built the Family back up again, their power clearly wouldn’t be long-term given the generational consequences of the antler tree getting burned down. Although she may still have been a temporary threat toward hybrids, whatever her plans were, they wouldn’t have a great impact on their future.
