Summary

Sweet Homeseason 3 will be the show’s last, and that could not be better news for Song Kang’s Netflix horror K-drama. The success ofSweet HomeconfirmedSong Kang’s “Son of Netflix"title following his first original show on the platform, 2019’sLove Alarm. WhereasLove Alarmwas not that different from other romantic comedy K-dramas,Sweet Homebecame a global hitthanks to its non-stop action, scary monsters, and strong cast. AlthoughSweet Homeis not my favoriteSong Kang K-drama, it is one of Netflix’s most successful Korean shows of all time.

Sweet Homeseason 3was announced shortly after the release of season 1 when Netflix confirmed that the horror series had been renewed for two more seasons.Sweet Homeseason 2 had flaws, but the fact that season 3 was already confirmed made me more confident that the show was setting up a satisfying conclusion. Now thatSweet Homeseason 3 is confirmed to be the last, some of the decisions made in season 2 make more sense, including the introduction of a lot of new characters.

Sweet Home Season 3 Is The Right Time To End The Show

Sweet Home needs to wrap things up

Although I likedSweet Homeseason 2, it proved that the show could not continue for much longer.Sweet Homeis based on a webtoon, yet the first season had already covered most of the source material. This means thatSweet Homeseason 2 was virtually an original story expanding on the concepts and storylines introduced in season 1. It is not uncommon forK-dramas based on a webtoonto tell original stories eventually, butSweet Homedid not have to continue for multiple seasons. The show would arguably have worked as a limited series.

Sweet Homeseason 3 premiers August 06, 2025 on Netflix.

Despite believing thatSweet Homedid not need a sequel, I was excited to watch season 2 and see where they would Hyun-su’s story. Surprisingly,Song Kang was barely inSweet Homeseason 2, which instead introduced a lot of new characters and expanded the scope of the show. In hindsight,Sweet Home’s divisive time skip makes sense. The show had to set up all the important pieces that would come into play in its final, bigger season.Sweet Home’s second season was one of transition, whereas season 3 can be the epic finale the show deserves.

Sweet Home Season 2 Proved The Show Needed To End Soon

Sweet Home season 2 wasn’t as good as season 1

Sweet Homeseason 2 made some risky decisions, including but not limited to the time skip and having Cha Hyun-su sidelined. I was not surprised to see the arrival of a bunch of new characters, which usually happens whenever a show returns for a new season. I was, however, surprised with how much time the Netflix K-drama spent with them instead of focusing on the remaining characters from season 1. Granted, a lot ofSweet Homecharacterswere already dead by that point, but season 2 sometimes felt like a different show entirely.

Sweet Home Season 3 Theory Makes Song Kang’s Hyun-su Even More Tragic

A chilling Sweet Home season 3 theory claims Song Kang’s Hyun-su will have to make an impossible decision regarding humans and monsters.

There was not muchSweet Homecould do to avoid that problem, though. Season 1 ended with the destruction of the Green Building, meaning the show couldn’t recapture its original tone.Sweet Home’s second season was bigger than the first one in every way, from the size of the cast to the locations. Characters like Doctor Lim and Yi-kyung’s daughter raised the stakes for the show and set up some interesting storylines, but nothing that would justifySweet Homerunning for multiple seasons. Concluding the show with season 3 is the right decision.

What To Expect From Sweet Home’s Final Season

Hyun-su may have to make a difficult choice

Sweet Homeis setting up a war between humans and monsters for its final season, and Song Kang’s character is right in the middle of it. On the one hand, Hyun-su wants to protect his friends and would never let anyone hurt them. On the other hand, he does not want monsters to be hunted simply because they are monsters.I expect Hyun-su to have to make some difficult decisions inSweet Homeseason 3, eventually having to pick between standing with humans or neo-humans. That is not to mention Hyun-su’s monster alter, who is currently in control.

Dr. Lim

Oh Jung-se

Sweet Homeseason 2’s endingincluded a sinister interaction between “evil Hyun-su” and Eun-yu, with the former asking the latter where she wanted to go.Sweet Home’s final season also has to reveal more about Yi-kyung’s daughter, who may have an important part to play in the inevitable war between humans and monsters. That said, what I’m most excited aboutSweet Homeseason 3 is the return of Eun-hyeok, played by Lee Do-hyun. Eun-hyeok was alive this whole time and is now a neo-human as well. Hopefully,Sweet Homewill end on a high note.
