Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players want Paradox Magikarp and for good reason
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players think Gen 1’s weakest Pokemon, Magikarp, should have gotten a Paradox form thanks to some nifty in-game lore.
One of the new elements that Pokemon Scarlet & Violetintroduced were Paradox Pokemon. Depending on the version one played, trainers could encounter ancient Pokemon or futuristic monsters.
A variety of Paradox Pokemon could be found through the base game, but more were introduced in both DLC waves, like Walking Wake orIron Crown.
However, one iconic Gen 1 Pokemon never got a Paradox form:Magikarp. Thanks to some interesting in-game lore, some fans think the flopping fish would have made an interesting Scarlet-version Paradox.

Aposton the Pokemon Scarlet & Violetsubredditsparked a discussion among fans after one player made a post titled, “There should have been a Paradox Magikarp.”
The OP went on to explain their rationale and said, “One of Magikarp’s Pokedex entry’s talk about how less pathetic its ancient form is; and how strong. So why not have a paradox magikarp?” the trainer asked.
Multiple Pokedex entries over the years have teased that Magikarp was “somewhat stronger” in the distant past than its present incarnation, however, the entry in Pokemon Violet hammers this point home.
Violet’s Pokedex entry for Magikarp read, “In the distant past, it was somewhat stronger than the horribly weak descendants that exist today.”
The OP theorized this Paradox Magikarp could have much more speed and Defense, but lackluster Special Defense. Fans in the comments liked the idea and offered their own suggestions for this theoretical Paradox monster.

“Give it Water/Dragon [typing] because Gyarados lost the Dragon type because of its rowdiness,” said one fan.
Others thought a Futuristic version of the Pokemon could work too. “Iron Sub. Make it a submarine. Since the future will be more eco friendly, maybe make it pedal powered,” suggested another player.
Alternatively, some thought the idea could still be implemented, but ina future Legends title. “They might be holding back for a Legends form of it like in Hisui.”
Whether or not fans will ever see this ancient incarnation of Magikarp remains to be seen, but it would certainly please trainers to see a Magikarp who’s not so weak.
