There has been a recent resurgence of PS2 titles coming to PlayStation 5 through PlayStation Plus' Premium tier, which uses emulation to bring titles from the PS1, PS2, and PSP consoles to modern hardware, with newer features such as Trophies, quicksaving, and more to bring the experience of playing these older titles up to what a more modern gaming audience might expect.

There have also been various remakes and remasters of titles from this acclaimed era of gaming over the years to bring classic titles to those who may not be on one of these higher subscription tiers, and a newPlayStation Blogpost has confirmed thatStar Wars: Bounty Hunterwill be receiving this treatment with improved environment textures and new lighting effects. The new version has been developed by Aspyr, who has previously worked onStar Warsremasters and ports such asStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republicand the more recentStar Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter’s New Release Has A New, Long-Awaited Feature

Players Can Finally Play As Boba Fett

Perhaps the biggest change from the previous releases of the game is that Aspyr has finally made an Easter Egg a reality. WhileStar Wars:Bounty Hunterfollows Jango Fett’s origin story, previous versions of the game displayed a very low-resolution texture with a message written in Aurebesh that translated to“Cash in all bounties to play as Boba.”

Unfortunately, this was a false promise, as the feature to play as Boba Fett didn’t exist, which led to some disappointment for those who achieved 100% completion and still could only play as Jango Fett. In the new version ofStar Wars: Bounty Hunter, once players have finished the main campaign, they will be able to equip a new Boba Fett skin for their next playthrough.

Star Wars Bounty Hunter - Play as Boba Fett

This Boba Fett skin is included in the game regardless of what platform players choose to play it on. While the PlayStation 5 version does have more features due to its DualSense optimization,Star Wars: Bounty Hunteris a multiplatform release and will also be on PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, making this the first time the game will be playable on Xbox consoles - it originally launched on PS2 and Nintendo Gamecube in 2022 - when it launches on June 27, 2025. Pre-orders are now available with a 10% discount, bringing the price down to $17.99.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter

Before Disney+ released The Mandalorian, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter on the PlayStation 2 was one of the few forms of onscreen media out there to give you further insight into Jango Fett. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was developed and published by Lucas Arts in 2002 as a prequel toEpisode II Attack of The Clonesand a continuation of Haden Blackman’s comic book,Jango Fett: Open Seasons. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is a brilliant precursor toAttack of the Clonesas it fills in gaps that aren’t explored in the movie relating to Jango Fett, such as how he acquired his ship, Slave I, and most importantly, why he was chosen to be the template for the Grand Army of the Republic. In the video game, Jango Fett has been hired by Darth Tyranus to capture and kill the leader of the Bando Gora crime syndicate, Komari Vosa, as Darth Tyranus and Darth Sidious are anxious that Vosa is becoming too powerful and will jeopardize their plans at universal domination. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was considered a success, not only for filling the gaps withAttack of The Clones, butits graphics, length and level design were all lauded. Although this is a classic game, we do have to mention one glaringly crazy fact, this game is expensive! At $250, you’ll have to be a devoted Star Wars fan if you want to pick this one up.
