Summary
The first newMario and Luigigame in nine years has been revealed during the most recent Nintendo Direct event. The gaming spin-off series has not seen a release ofMario and Luigi: Paper Jamin 2015. There were a couple of remakes following that game, but this is the last original title. After that, however, the studio in charge of the series, AlphaDream, declared bankruptcy and closed, thus ending the saga. The return of the series seemed unlikely until the recent announcement from Nintendo, which already gave the next title a release date.
Nintendo has revealedMario and Luigi: Brothership, a new entry in the series. The information was shared during the most recent Direct event, which was broadcast on the officialNintendochannel on YouTube. The trailer shows the iconic siblings getting into shenanigans together until a portal appears, taking them to another world. Their new goal is to make it back home.

In addition to the plot, a lot of the gameplay elements can be seen in the reveal trailer, including its platforming sequences, mini-games, and turn-based combat, all of which should play an important part in the duo’s journey to return home.

The Game Will Be Made Available For Nintendo Switch
Aside from the reveal of the gameplay aspects, the trailer also revealed thatMario and Luigi: Brothershipwill be released for Nintendo Switch on November 7. With the release date set so close, it means that development for the upcoming game should be well underway if not near completion altogether. At the moment, it is uncertain which studio is helming the game’s development and if there are any of the members of AlphaDream involved with the new project, as a means to bring their expertise with the series to the new installment.
From what was presented in the reveal trailer, the newMario and Luigi: Brothershipgame will present a plethora of gameplay styles. Players will be required to use both siblings to traverse explorable areas and solve puzzles, as well as defeat enemies in combat. From what was shown,it seems like the combat instances will be mostly turn-based, though with a few elements of real-time gameplay, such as actively dodging some opponents' attacks, for example.

With so many Mario titles currently available, and stories to be explored in the Mushroom Kingdom, the world can wait for Super Mario Odyssey 2.
Despite being transported away from home, the siblings will meet with several well-known faces, including Princess Peach and Bowser. While the future of the series is somewhat unknown, the new title could be a way of reviving the spin-off games and, hopefully, establishing a new path for more adventures centered around the two characters, even if the series never made it among the20 bestMariogames.Mario and Luigi: Brothershipis not yet available on the Nintendo eShop store, but it should be open for pre-orders soon, as its release is scheduled for early November.
