Should The Jurassic Park Franchise Include More Animation?

Recent Live-Action Projects Haven’t Been Well-Received

For the most part, theJurassic Parkfranchise, which now consists of six films in total (with aJurassic Park 4now confirmedto release next year), has existed firmly in the realm of live-action. These live-action projects are the real money-makers of the franchise, withJurassic World Dominionmaking over $1 billion at the box office in 2022. The reception to the two animated projects in the franchise, however, suggests there could be an opportunity to further explore this other medium.

As seen in the chart above, the two animatedJurassic Worldshows sport some of the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores of the franchise. Considering a number of the feature film installments in the larger franchise haven’t been received well critically, there’s clearly something to be said for these animated projects telling new stories in a new medium. It’s worth noting, however, that bothJurassic World: Camp CretaceousandJurassic World: Chaos Theoryare shows aimed at child audiences, limiting their mass appeal.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory Season 1 Ending Explained

The ending of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory season 1 is fast-paced and packed with twists and turns that set up the perfect story for season 2.

If an animatedJurassic Worldmovie or TV show moved forward that was aimed at a broader audience of both children and adults, it could end up finding a great deal of success. There’s also an argument to be made, however, that the franchise already feels as if it’s been stretched too thin, and putting more animated projects into the works would only exaccerbate this. It remains to be seen how much of a futureJurassic Parkhas in animation, but there’s evidently more ofJurassic World: Chaos Theoryon the way.
