Julio Cesar Chavez Jr arrested for alleged firearm trafficking days after Jake Paul fight
Mexican Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has been arrested just days after fighting Jake Paul over alleged firearms trafficking and connection to the cartels.
The fight took place on Saturday, June 28, in Los Angeles, California, andYouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul took home the dub.
Now that the event is over and both fighters have made their way towards home, however, Chavez Jr has found himself in trouble.
According to TMZ, the boxer has been arrested due to an active warrant out of Mexico for alleged weapons trafficking and connections to organized crime.
Chavez Jr arrested over active warrant
The arrest took place in the Los Angeles area on Thursday, July 3, and the Department of Homeland Security says Chavez Jr will promptly be returned to Mexico.
“This Sinaloa Cartel affiliate with an active arrest warrant for trafficking guns, ammunition, and explosives was arrested by ICE,” Homeland Security official Tricia McLaughlin told TMZ. “It is shocking the previous administration flagged this criminal illegal alien as a public safety threat, but chose to not prioritize his removal and let him leave and COME BACK into our country.”

After the arrest,NBCLA spokewith Michael Goldstein, Chavez Jr’s attorney.
“This appears to be nothing more than another headline to terrorize the Latin community,” he said. “On the case involving guns, a court granted mental health diversion, which Mr. Chávez was both eligible and suitable for under state statutes.
“He is in full compliance with his diversion, has completed all requirements asked of him, and we expect the case to be dismissed under the diversion statutes. This is the first we’ve ever heard of these outrageous allegations.”
