It’s been a while since Superman’s last solo film, and James Gunn’s upcoming Superman could fulfill some long-absent qualities of the character.

How James Gunn Is Elevating The Daily Planet Beyond Past Superman Films

With Cat and Ron being added totheSupermanmovie cast, it is becoming clear thatGunn is really wanting to put a bigger emphasis on The Daily Planet in the DC Universe. While the newspaper publisher has always had a presence in past live-actionSupermanfilms, this is the first time this many staff members are featured in the lore. In fact, for Cat and Ron, Gunn’s Superman movie will mark their cinematic debut, after having been featured in previousSupermanTV shows.

AsSupermanwill not be a traditional origin story for Corenswet’s Man of Steel, the addition of Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Cat, and Ron, as well as the recent casting of Steve Lombard,Gunn clearly wants to show the bigger role The Daily Planet has in Clark’s life. Having these supporting characters around him also highlights more of Clark’s career as a reporter, which sets him up to have colleagues and work rivals in his life other than Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.

It will be fascinating to see the role The Daily Planet has in the larger DC Universe, especially in the current landscape of news organizations.Whether or not Hoover and McDonald are the final casting news for theSupermanfilm remains to be seen, as there could be other surprise cast members that Gunn has yet to reveal. AsSupermangets closer to wrapping principal photography, the world will hopefully not have to wait much longer for the first trailer of Gunn’s movie.
