House Of The Dragon Season 2, Episode 1 Review: A Mostly Strong Return For Game Of Thrones' Prequel
House of the Dragon season 2, episode 1, “A Son for a Son” is a solid premiere that sets up the Dance of the Dragons, but has some flaws too.
The season 2 trailer shows Aegon and Rhaenyra’s reactions to Daemon’s plot. Understandably, Aegon is enraged by the slaying of his son and angrily declares war. Rhaenyra also disapproves of Daemon’s doing, since it could decrease support for her cause. After the death of Lucerys, Rhaenyra and the Blacks held the moral high ground against the Greens, and their next course of action, whether it be restraint or retribution, would dictate how the Dance of the Dragons plays out.Daemon reacting by ordering “a son for a son” only inflames hostilities and deepens the animosity.

The season 2 trailer also teases the military strategy involved in the Dance of the Dragons. As Aemond says, armies are just as important as Dragons themselves, and one of the Greens' key military strategists, Criston Cole, sayscontrolling Harrenhal is the key to the upcoming war. As one of the most formidable castles in Westeros, Harrenhal’s location in the Riverlands and its proximity to King’s Landing makes it a key strategic stronghold for the forthcoming conflict. After the killing of Jaehaerys, the Dance of the Dragons has truly begun inHouse of the Dragonseason 2.
House of the Dragonseason 2 airs new episodes Sunday nights on HBO and Max.
