Why That’s Probably Not Midnighter On Superman’s Set
At first glance, it’s understandable that DC fans would assume it is Midnighter in thatSupermanphoto, as Gunn’s film will be introducing a handful of members of The Authority, primarily through María Gabriela De Faría as Angela Spica, a.k.a. The Engineer. Combine that context with the long cloak, and it feels like a case of adding 2 and 2 and getting 5. Because, sadly, whoever is in the image is likely not Midnighter at all.
What truly gives it away is the shoes that the actor is wearing in that specificSupermanset photo. Underneath the cloak, the character is clearly wearing regular business wear. That would suggest there’s a more conventional answer: that a known actor, like Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) who is being covered up to avoid the kind offirst look Mister Terrifichas just seen. It would also be logical for them to have Lex cloaked if he ends up having a big part in the action sequences that are being filmed currently.
If Midnighter was truly showing up inSuperman, it would be more surprising that he wasn’t already announced along with the casting news. To have him be revealed through a grainy set photo where he is all covered up as the first look would not be ideal for DC Studios in terms of marketing this film. But for now, the world will have to wait and see what else is going down in Gunn’sSupermanmovie as they get closer to finishing filming.
