Summary
Luke Skywalkerhas been one of the most enduring parts of theStar Warsfranchise since it began, and he could continue to be a prominent character by appearing in any of seven upcoming shows and movies. There are a host ofnewStar WarsmoviesandupcomingStar Warsshowsset to come out in the next few years, and they’ll tackle a range of topics. Since there will be such a wide range of stories over such a huge chunk of time, some of them could even include Luke Skywalker, one ofthe most powerful Jedi ever.
Star Warshas already proven that it’s far from done with Luke, as he has already appeared outside the movies inThe Mandalorianseason 2,The Book of Boba Fett, and as a child inObi-Wan Kenobi. It also proved that the age of Mark Hamill, the actor who portrays Luke, isn’t a problem, as both of those appearances featuredLuke’s face recreated with controversial deepfake technology, combined with Hamill’s voice acting. That means Luke could appear again in any part oftheStar Warstimelinethat he was alive for, which opens several possibilities to see him again.

Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What’s the best way to watch Star Wars? Here’s everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
7Skeleton Crew
Skeleton Crew’s Children Could Be Jedi Padawans In Luke’s Order
Luke Skywalker could easily appear inStar Wars: Skeleton Crewboth because of its place in the timeline, but also because of its story. While there aren’t manyconfirmed details forSkeleton Crew, it is known that it takes place duringthe New Republic era, in the time betweenReturn of the JediandStar Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s also known that Jude Law will play a Jedi on an adventure with four children. Other than that, there’s very little known aboutSkeleton Crew, as even its release date is only confirmed as the year 2024, but there’s ample room for Luke to appear.
Luke was rebuilding the Jedi Order during the New Republic era, and he was training new younglings in the ways of the Force.Since the children ofSkeleton Creware traveling with a Jedi, it’s entirely possible that they’re Force-sensitive, and that the journey they’re on is actually toLuke’s temple on Ossus. While that would be a way to include him, there’s also a good chance Luke won’t appear in the show.SkeletonCrewseems to be a smaller, more self-containedStar Warsshow than those of the past, and including a cameo from Luke would work against that.

6Ahsoka Season 2
Ezra Bridger Could Find Luke & Ask Him To Save Ahsoka & Sabine
LikeSkeleton Crew,Ahsokaalso takes place during the New Republic era, putting it in the perfect window for Luke Skywalker to appear.Ahsokaseason 2was also recently confirmed, meaning her story will soon be continued, and it left off in a perfect place for Luke to get involved. Atthe end ofAhsokaseason 1, both Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn returned to the mainStar Warsgalaxy, which set up a major conflict between the New Republic and the Imperial remnants. That could threaten the entire galaxy, so Luke could be called in to help.
Thrawn’s return and grand plan to restart the Galactic Empire are major developments for the future ofStar Wars, though, and they might be saved for a bigger project thanAhsokaseason 2.Luckily, there are several other ways Luke could return without fighting Thrawn. Ezra would likely seek out the most prominent living Jedi in the galaxy, meaning he could meet Luke. Additionally, he could enlist Luke’s help in rescuing Ahsoka and Sabine from Peridea, since they were trapped there in the previous season. Those methods could even act as a way to make Luke a prominent character in the Mandoverse.

5The Mandalorian Season 4
Luke Already Entered The Show, & Could Return
Din Djarin and Grogu, the main characters ofThe Mandalorian, have a bright future ahead of them. They’ll be the stars of a standalone movie,The Mandalorian & Grogu, and it’s possible that their original show will continue for another season. The Mandalorian & Groguseason 4is currently in an uncertain place, as it’s not clear whether it will release before or after the movie, or if it will be made at all. There’s quite a bit of Mandalorian content on the horizon, and season 4 might have been replaced byThe Mandalorian & Grogu.
IfThe Mandalorianseason 4 does happen, it could very well feature Luke Skywalker. Luke has already proven himself as an influential character inThe Mandalorian’s timeline, as he rescued the heroes at the end of season 2 and offered Grogu a chance to join his Jedi Order inThe Book of Boba Fett. While Grogu chose to join Din and become a Mandalorian instead, Luke could still have some effect on their work for the New Republic. They’ll likely face some serious threats, and Luke could lend a helping hand.

4The Mandalorian & Grogu
The Mandalorian & Grogu Will Raise The Series' Stakes, Potentially High Enough To Require Luke
WhetherThe Mandalorian & Groguseason 4 happens or not,The Mandalorian & Groguis already moving full-steam ahead. With a release date of June 04, 2025, Lucasfilm has put remarkable faith in the movie, and clearly is treating it as a major project. The Mandalorian & Grogu’s story still isn’t confirmed, but it’s fair to assume it will feature even more danger and drama than the show provided, given its format. The stakes will likely be higher than they ever have before, and it could even show the climax of the threat set up byAhsoka.
If there was a project big enough to depict Thrawn’s attempt to restore the Empire,The Mandalorian & Groguwould be the one.The Mandalorian& Groguwill beStar Wars' first return to theatrically released movies since 2019, meaning there’s a lot riding on it.That could meanThe Mandalorian & Groguwill pull out all the stops, including a payoff for Thrawn’s return and a cameo from Luke Skywalker. Even if the movie features a different main antagonist, they will still be a threat unlike any seen so far in a Mandoverse story, which could make them a big enough problem to require Luke’s attention.

3New Jedi Order
Luke Skywalker Could Appear As A Force Ghost
Luke Skywalker became one with the Force in theStar Warssequel trilogy, but that doesn’t preclude him from continuing to affect the future of theStar Warstimeline. Rey Skywalker, Luke’s student, is set to rebuild the Jedi Order inStar Wars: New Jedi Order, and she’ll likely need some help for such a monumental task. While she does have her own experience, the lessons she learned from Luke and Leia, and the ancient Jedi texts from Ahch-To, she’s also the only Jedi left alive afterStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. That situation perfectly sets up Luke to return to the screen.
Luke became a Force ghost inThe Rise of Skywalker, which would make it possible for him to be inNew Jedi Order. There’s a long tradition inStar Warsof Force ghosts staying around to help their students through difficult times, from Obi-Wan to Yoda, and Luke could join that trend.Lukecould appear as a Force ghost to help Rey and give her advice and wisdom during whatever troublesNew Jedi Orderwill throw her way. Even if he doesn’t appear in the movie, Luke’s legacy will more than likely live on in Rey’s actions, and her Jedi Order.

New Jedi Orderdoesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it will likely followThe Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to release in 2026.
2Dave Filoni’s Untitled Mandalorian Movie
As The Culmination Of The New Republic Era, Filoni’s Movie Could See Luke Return
The Mandalorian & Groguisn’t the only movie planned for the fan-favorite duo, there’s also Dave Filoni’s untitledMandalorianmovie. His film has been heralded as the culmination of the Mandoverse, which means that ifThe Mandalorian & Grogudoesn’t bring out everything the franchise has in store, Filoni’s movie will. It’s not clear if this will be a true ending to Din and Grogu’s story or just the end of an era, but either way, Filoni’sMandalorianmovie will likely have major stakes for all the characters involved.
There’s also a chance thatThe Mandalorian & Grogudoesn’t feature Thrawn at all, and that his final plans will be saved for Filoni’sMandalorianmovie. Filoni confirmed thatThrawn would be the main threat in hisMandalorianmovie, meaning that if Thrawn does appear inThe Mandalorian & Grogu, he wouldn’t be defeated. If that’s the case, it would likely be because he’s an even bigger threat than the New Republic thought he would be. That would force them to call in their heaviest hitter, also known as Luke Skywalker. If he doesn’t appear anywhere else before it, Luke is most likely to appear in Filoni’sMandalorianmovie.
Dave Filoni’sMandalorianmovie is still part of Lucasfilm’s plans, even after the announcement ofThe Mandalorian & Grogu.
1Lando
Lando Could Connect Solo & The Original Trilogy Together
The final upcomingStar Warsmovie Luke could appear in is also one of the furthest-off, theLandomovie. There’s currentlyvery little known aboutLando, other than a basic synopsis that it follows Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian fromSolo: A Star Wars Story, years before Billy Dee Williams' appearance inThe Empire Strikes Back. Much of the reasonLandois so mysterious is because it has had such a troubled development; it began as a show, then became a movie, and is now being written by Glover himself, but is again being stalled due to Glover’s other projects and other factors.
Initially, it seems that Luke wouldn’t have a feasible way of appearing inLando, given its setting on the timeline.Landowill likely take place before the original trilogy, and by extension, before Lando met Luke. While that means Luke likely won’t be a prominent character in the movie, it doesn’t mean he can’t appear at all.Glover is about the same age as Williams was inThe Empire Strikes Back, and it’s possible thatLandocould end by showing Lando on Cloud City and meeting the heroes of the original trilogy, giving Luke a small role in the film.
Despite the lack of news,Landowas confirmed by Lucasfilm in 2020.
There are several ways Luke Skywalker could appear in the future ofStar Wars, and he should continue to show up in movies and shows. Luke is one of the most easily recognizable and beloved parts of the franchise, and seeing more of him is always appreciated. Including him in more projects also simply makes sense, as he was set up as the most important person in the galaxy, and raising the stakes any higher than they’ve already gotten without including him would feel odd.Star Warshas set up at least seven waysLuke Skywalkercould return, and it should capitalize on at least one.
Luke Skywalker
The son of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, Luke was brought up on the desert planet Tatooine. Initially mentored by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke fired the fateful shot that destroyed the Death Star, and he became a rebel hero. Despite the fears of Obi-Wan and Yoda, Luke’s faith in his father was proved well-founded when Vader returned to the light. With the Emperor defeated, Luke dedicated himself to bringing back the Jedi; his first attempt ended in tragedy due to Palpatine’s manipulations, but Luke’s legacy lives on in Rey.
