Summary
With well over a decade gone since the first movie debuted to widespread acclaim and box office success, Andy Serkis has a confident update forThe Adventures of Tintin 2. Serkis starred in Steven Spielberg’s 2011 adaptation of the Hergé comic books alongside Jamie Bell in the titular role, Daniel Craig, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and Toby Jones. Also produced byLord of the Rings' Peter Jackson, it was the first motion-captured animated movie and non-Pixar title to bring home the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, thoughthe proposedTintin 2has languished in development hell since.
During a recent panel at the ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024 (perThe PopVerse),Serkis seemingly indicated that early talks are underway forThe Adventures of Tintin 2. The comments came about as the actor reflected on his working relationship with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens, including their upcoming reunion forThe Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, while also saying the group are looking to make a follow-up to the 2011 adventure hit. See what Serkis shared below:

I think I’ve got a very psychic connection to Phillipa [Boyens] and Fran [Walsh]. Ever since we’ve first met, we’ve done eight movies now, and this [Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum] will be our ninth. I’m pretty sure there will be a tenth, because I’ve got a feeling there will be another Tintin movie coming along at some point.
Serkis' LOTR Return Shows The Best Path For Tintin 2 To Happen
In the 13 years since the original movie released, bothSpielberg and Jackson have remained very passionateabout wanting to bringAdventures of Tintin 2to life, with the latter also expected to direct the sequel. One of the biggest hurdles in making the sequel, as well as a planned third installment, has beenJackson’s busy schedule. The Oscar winner quickly became busy working onThe Hobbittrilogy shortly after the first movie’s release before more recently turning to the world of documentaries, including the Emmy-winningThe Beatles: Get Back.
Though Spielberg and Jackson have reiterated that the latter will direct the sequel, one of the best paths forward forThe Adventures of Tintinmay actually be forJackson to hand the reins off to Serkis. There’s already some precedent for this, as Serkis is not only reprising his titular role forthe upcomingThe Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, but is also stepping into the director’s chair, making him the first since Jackson to helm a live-action feature based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s work.

Is WB’s Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum Movie Based On A Tolkien Book?
Warner Bros. has announced a new Lord of the Rings movie centered around Gollum. But is it based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books? Here’s what we know.
Much likeLord of the Rings, Serkis' past experience embodying the character of Captain Haddock and directing motion-capture movies makes him the perfect fit to take over for Jackson onThe Adventures of Tintin 2. That being said, considering Jackson hasn’t stepped into the director’s chair for a feature film sinceThe Hobbittrilogycloser and is involved in the newLord of the Ringsmovies in a writing and producing capacity, he may finally have enough of a window in his schedule to team with Bell and Serkis to bring Hergé’s works back to the big screen.
