10 Forgotten Fallout Factions That Should Make A Return In Fallout 5
The Fallout setting has seen the rise and fall of dozens of weird, cool, and interesting factions. Here are ten that ought to return for Fallout 5.
12The Deathclaw Gauntlet
Weaponizes the terror of the series' most fearsome creatures
Of all themutant animals and monsters featured inFalloutso far, by far the most imposing has only been given a brief cameo in the Amazon series. The Deathclaws are horrific beasts specifically engineered to kill, roaming the American wastes of theFalloutseries at the top of the food chain. A Deathclaw skull briefly appears in season 1 ofFallout, but taking down these beasts is no easy task.
The Deathclaws are so dangerous that even their remains are deadly weapons. The Deathclaw Gauntlet is a handmade melee weapon featured inFallout 3onwards, fashioned from a Deathclaw forelimb strapped to a medical brace. The razor-sharp blades of the Deathclaws' signature claws are capable of slicing through even reinforced power armor like butter, making their severed hands terrifically deadly weapons when given the right user.
11The Railway Rifle
A charming craftable weapon
Fallout 3introduced the ability to hand-craft certain specialty weapons from various pieces of salvage that can be found scattered throughout the Capital Wasteland, and this feature returned in every subsequent entry. One of the most iconic of these jury-rigged weapons, the Junk Jet, made it into Amazon’sFallout, impaling a hapless guard with a projectile baby doll. Hopefully, season 2 can expand on the representation of this category of weapon with the Railway Rifle.
Cobbled together from a pressure cooker, a fission battery, a steam gauge assembly, and a crutch, the Railway Rifle might not look like much at first glance, seeming to be an unwieldy mess of pipes. However, the weapon can fire railroad spikes at a high velocity to deadly effect, turning a commonly-found piece of scrap metal in the wasteland into valuable projectile ammunition. The device even emits a charming train whistle sound with every shot, making it a joy to use in theFalloutgames.
10The Fat Man
One of the most iconic weapons in the entire series
Thenuclear explosions of theFalloutseriesare a franchise trademark, with the woeful world experiencing a great many radioactive blasts both before and after the apocalypse. Many of these can be attributed to one of the most iconic weapons in the entire series, the Fat Man. A heavy launcher named after a real-life nuclear weapon, the Fat Man doesn’t initially look like much on its own, seeming to be a mostly-empty guide rail.
It’s the ammunition of the Fat Man that makes it so dangerous, firing Mini-Nukes, literal nuclear bombs about the size of a football. Upon impact, these shots generate massive explosions that even leave behind lingering traces of radiation in their wake that show up on the player’s Pip-Boy Geiger counter.Doing the most damage in a single shot in any of theFalloutgames' weapons, seeing one of these terrifying missile launchers at some point in theFalloutTV series is a near-guarantee.
9Mercy
A storied weapon with a deadly final resting place
Fallout: New Vegasintroduced one of the most destructive handheld weapons in the entire series, the grenade machine gun. A cumbersome heavy weapon requiring a back-mounted ammunition feed, these cannons could automatically fire prolonged barrages of 25mm grenades, laying waste to anything in a huge radius. A unique named variant of the grenade machine gun was known simply as Mercy, one of the most prized items inFallout: New Vegas.
Mercy could only be found in Dead Wind Cavern, in the hands of an ill-fated Brotherhood of Steel paladin who fell in battle during an expedition into the Deathclaw-infested cave. Those willing to brave the perils of the cavern were well-rewarded with the heavy weapon, firing even more damaging 40mm grenades rather than the standard 25mm ammunition. Getting a glimpse of the rusted-over artillery piece in season 2 ofFalloutin New Vegas would be a welcome cameo.
8Ratslayer
A weapon of choice for stealthy snipers
Not every weapon in theFalloutseries thrives on making the biggest explosion. The unique varmint rifle Ratslayer is one of the few weapons in theFalloutgames that prides itself on subtlety, being the perfect choice for snipers wishing to remain undetected. Similarly to Mercy, this unique variant of a relatively stock-standard low-caliber rifle is found in a cave teeming with wildlife, surrounded by giant rats in an area known as Broc flower cave.
The Ratslayer is notable for its incredibly high critical hit modifier, doing up to five times the damage of a normal shot upon landing a critical hit. This makes it an ideal gun for luck-based builds to reach for, with its light weight, silencer, and night vision scope making it all the better for stealthy approaches. Interestingly, with the “Wild Wasteland” perk ofFallout: New Vegasequipped, the giant rats surrounding it become “Rodents of Unusual Size,” referencingthe giant rats ofThe Princess Bride.
10 Coolest Looking Fallout Armor Sets In The History Of The Game, Ranked
Some of the most iconic and best armor in the Fallout franchise just lacks that cool factor. These are the most unique ones across the franchise.
7Vengeance
One of the most powerful laser weapons ever created for the games
Before Mercy inFallout: New Vegas, there was Vengeance inFallout 3. The specially-named weapon is a unique variant of the Gatling laser, a cross between the laser rifles of theFalloutseries and a handheld minigun. These massive weapons, when worn with a back-mounted battery pack, arecapable of laying down the most oppressive stream of fire in any of theFalloutgames, absolutely melting mutant and human enemies alike.
Like Mercy, Vengeance is a unique version of the already impressive weapon, boasting a higher ammunition capacity and one of the most blistering rates of damage per second in the entire game. Similarly to its explosive cousin,Vengeance is found within the depths of a Deathclaw-infested cave, the Deathclaw Sanctuary, making it an incredibly dangerous item to retrieve. Seeing Vengeance, or any Gatling laser, for that matter, would be a great way to sell the increased threat of the Brotherhood of Steel in season 2 ofFallout.
6The Plasma Rifle
The next level in energy weaponry unseen in season 1
Bythe end ofFalloutseason 1, a modest handful of energy weapons were given a few glimpses of screentime, introducing the more unconventional side of theFalloutfranchise’s military armament. Both of these, however, were laser weapons specifically, and only scratch the surface of the wealth of energy-based guns available to players in theFalloutgames. Notably absent is the plasma rifle, a dangerous cousin of the more prevalent laser weapons.
Rather than firing a single focused beam of light, the plasma rifles instead deal in white-hot clouds of superheated plasma, trading off higher damage in exchange for a slower projectile speed. Instead of turning its victims to ash, plasma weaponry can be known to melt its victims into puddles of green goo on a critical hit, making them some of the most feared rifles in theFalloutseries. The TV show needs to show more love to energy weapons in season 2 in general, and the inclusion of plasma rifles would be a great place to start.
5The Power Fist
The bastion of an underrated playstyle
Often falling by the wayside compared to firearms, energy weapons, and melee weapons, the unarmed combat flavor of fighting is an underrated option in theFalloutgames.By far the pinnacle of weaponry in this more niche category is the Power Fist, a sort of gauntlet that uses a high-powered piston to put incredible force into the user’s punches. While maybe not the most practical weapon, the Power Fist is undeniably stylish and unique to theFalloutfranchise.
Variations of the Power Fist include Greased Lightning, with a drastically-improved speed, and the Industrial Hand, which adds an automatic saw-blade into the mix.Fist-based weaponry, like the Power Fist, is most closely associated with Caesar’s Legion inFallout: New Vegas. With season 2 of the show seemingly headed towards the Mojave, it’s very possible that a Power Fist-wielding legionary is close at hand to the series' future.
10 Game Questions Fallout Season 2 Could Answer
The Fallout series still has no shortage of mysteries which the second season of the TV show could explore, especially in regard to New Vegas.
4The Alien Blaster
A powerful energy pistol with otherworldly origins
The Zetans are classic alien beings sometimes observed in theFalloutgame series. One of thebiggest mysteries of theFalloutfranchise, these little green men are known for their horrific experiments, advanced technology, and deadly energy weaponry. Having appeared in everyFalloutgame since the original title, the Alien Blaster is something of a series staple.
Though slightly differing in appearance from game to game, the Alien Blaster always looks like something out of a cheesy 50s science fiction movie, complete with ringed barrels and rocket-like fins for sights.Despite their toy-like appearance, these energy pistols are incredibly potent, with theFallout 3version being one of the most devastating close-range firearms in the entire series. Even if season 2 of the Amazon show likely won’t show the aliens directly, a small nod to their presence with a human character wielding the Alien Blaster wouldn’t go unappreciated.
3The Splattercannon
An infamously powerful weapon in Fallout 4
As great as exotic energy blasters and unique homemade contraptions are as weapons, sometimes a simple bullet hose is the best option to reach for when navigating the wasteland.Few games proved this point likeFallout 4, which introduced an infamously powerful named weapon, the Splattercannon. Becoming a weapon of choice for speedrunners due to its sheer efficiency, the Splattercannon is a unique version of the Ak-47 lookalike weapon introduced in theNuka-WorldDLC, the handmade rifle.
What makes the Splattercannon so strong is its unique perk, the “Furious” legendary effect. This feature ramps up the damage of each consecutive bullet that lands on a single target, meaning that as long as one can hit their shots, the Splattercannon will quickly live up to its name as a damage-dealing monster. Considering how much clear inspiration theFalloutshow draws from the art style and world ofFallout 4in particular, an homage to one of the game’s biggest workhorse weapons wouldn’t be out of place.
